Erika Smull, PhD.

Senior Research Analyst

Erika is a senior research analyst at Breckinridge. In her role, she performs municipal credit analysis and leads data science integration efforts for the municipal credit team. Erika also contributes to Breckinridge’s values-aligned and environmental, social and governance (ESG) product offerings and is a member of the Stewardship Committee. She has been with the firm since 2021 and has over three years of industry experience. Erika has a background in water resources engineering and environmental policy and has written several peer-reviewed journal articles on topics ranging from climate risk pricing in the municipal bond market to the affordability of water services in the U.S. Prior to Breckinridge she was a water resources engineer based out of Boulder, Colorado. She holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Penn State University and a M.S. in civil and environmental engineering from Colorado State University. Erika also holds a PhD. in environmental policy, with a focus on water utilities and the municipal bond market, from Duke University.
